Today's Etsy giveaway is so exciting to me. As soon as I saw Amber Maida's site, I instantly fell in love. Her paintings are so incredible. She has an amazing sense of color and contrast. All of her paintings flow so well, they keep your eyes moving around the whole painting, taking it all in (as a good painting should!). I can't even begin to describe her talent as a painter, that's why I'll let her work do all the talking.
She is amazing isn't she? So I suppose I should tell you what you can win. :) You get to choose any 8.5"x11" Giclee print on archival rag paper from Amber Maida's shop! Signed by the artist herself! ($18) (Image size will be a bit smaller than paper size to allow for signature) PLUS 50% off towards the purchase of any original painting in her shop! (good until 12/31/2008)
Note: For this giveaway shipping is free within the US, everywhere else pays calculated shipping fees only.

2. What is your regular job?
I am a full-time exhibiting international artist (30+ hours a week is my personal definition of full time), I am also an award-winning dance choreographer and modeling coach- currently serving as one of the company director's of Stratford Academy of Dance (My students keep me fueled with energy and fresh inspirations), I am a colorist/designer for Custom Building Services. I love the inspiration that comes from this fusion and mixed perspectives on the visual and performing arts!
3. Do you Haiku?
Hidden beneath paint
When she first appeared to me
left hidden... inspires
4. Picture of your workspace (as is, no cheating!)
My studio is completely off limits as it is undergoing rennovation- i'm not allowed in at all! So my current work space/studio is wherever the paint lands and the music plays:) I've included a photo of one such session, what i simply call my "Paint to the music" live performance.
5. What inspires you?
Life is magic! I love exploring, learning, listening and experimenting with materials, videas, colors and textures. Music, especially anything David Bowie is inspiring to me- I play his music while I paint! Dance and the fluidity of movement inspires me to create the Vogue series of paintings and the new Muse collection. When I feel the need to re-fuel, I read more- especially biographies of art masters and dancers... I talk with my lovely artist-friends and get back to experimenting with my art in the studio
6. What item in your shop is your favorite and why?
Muse III is my current favorite. She was not expected, I saw the piece developing as a cityscape for the fragmented urbanism series.... but then as I moved around the painting (I mainly work directly on the floor and dance/move around the canvas- forgetting where the top or bottom of the artwork, my father-in-law kids me that many of my paintings are upside down to him!) I saw her, as clear as can be! In fact, all i had to do was outline her with my pearlescent inks, nothing was added beyond that, she was just there. I cried when I found her, it was about 2am, it was magic.
Thank you Amber for you generosity! You are truly an amazing artist!
